August 2011

To all of my guitar students and their families:

I am happy to write to you to let you know that I will continue teaching private lessons and guitar ensemble at my private studio, Hartt School Community Division, UConn Community School of the Arts, and Music and Arts Center for the next academic year 2011-2012. It is important to me to bring you the best classical guitar instruction possible at the most reasonable price. Thank you to all for being such a wonderful group.

However, to maintain the same price schedule I have decided to slightly revise some of the policies regarding lessons. The major change that I am making is this: I will no longer be able to accommodate students for make-up lessons for student-generated absences UNLESS the student is legitimately sick and notifies me within a reasonable time in advance (e.g. 24 hours in advance). If there is room in my schedule within the week, a makeup time will be offered. I can not offer make up times for trips or appointments. The lesson schedule for the Hartt Community Division students will follow its calendar for vacations. UConn CSA students will also follow its calendar. For my students in Music and Arts Center and private studio, please plan ahead and discuss with me your vacations. This year, I will not be teaching from December 25 until January 7. I may cancel up to 3 lessons during the year due to illness or professional commitments. I try not to use this, but in the event of cancellation, you will be offered a makeup.

Private studio students: In terms of payment, I will continue to charge on a month to month basis for lessons with the full monthly amount due at the beginning of the month. Unless you let me know beforehand that you would like an extension, I will charge a 5% late charge for late payments made after the 12th of the month. On a brighter note (no pun intended), I will give a 5% discount to families who pay “in full” for the entire semester in advance. For those who pay “in full” for the entire year in advance I will offer a 10% discount.

If you plan to continue taking lessons from me, we will need to choose your lesson day and time as soon as possible. Please agree to a day and time that really works for you, so that you will be able to keep on tract with lessons. I am happy to change your lesson day and time, if possible, if during the year if you think you won't be able to attend that appointment regularly.

I am setting this new policy for my own time management and financial requirements as music lessons are my primary source of income. Please, do not take this personally, as it is my best intention to promote our commitment to a good music education, to enjoy it, and to safeguard our stability. You are all wonderful, talented, and promising students with committed families, and it is my sincere pleasure to teach you.

All my best-
